The next Assassin's Creed game will star the hero of Assassin's Creed 2, according to a report from CVG. After Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned the new game and its multiplayer features, an Ubisoft spokesman said: "The game will take place with the same hero, which is Ezio, and will follow-up the story that took place in Assassin's Creed 2." This sheds more light on why Ubisoft was quick to point out that it will be a full retail product and not downloadable content. DLC would probably have been our conclusion if we knew it was an Ezio story.
This would make the game seem more like a spin-off story to the events of Assassin's Creed 2, rather than the next proper sequel which may take Desmond and the Animus to a different time period. It also sheds light on how a multiplayer mode could be possible; Ezio comes into contact with several other assassins, so it's possible we'll see them as playable characters. The new game is set to release by March of 2011 at the latest, so we're likely to hear more details at E3.
